During the 2017 growing season, the Federated Agronomy Team planted, monitored, and harvested 17 Discovery Plots: nine soybean plots and eight corn plots. Each plot was planted with specific soybean varieties and corn hybrids from six major seed companies, including Dekalb®/Asgrow®, NK®, Croplan®, Legend™, Renk, and Mycogen®.

Craig Gustafson, Federated's eastern division agronomy manager, noted what was learned/gained from the Discovery Plots:

• Crop response to soil type and management
• Crop placement
• Crop nutrient needs
• Crop rotation affect
• Herbicide performance
• Valuable yield data
• ROI for seed purchases

Gustafson said, "Both corn and soybean Discovery Plot results showed very tight yield numbers, making seed buying decisions difficult, however, we are able to identify the strengths of each product."
