It’s important to plan for fall fertilization even with the busy harvest season. “Now is the time to contact your Federated Agronomist,” said Robby Reinking, agronomy sales rep at Federated’s Albertville location, to ensure that things can be done efficiently in the tight harvest window.

Keeping the lines of communication open between growers and Federated Agronomists puts plans in place for taking composite and VRT samples, or for flat spreading to compensate for crop removal.

Reinking said, “Contact your agronomist before the combine leaves the yard so applications [can be scheduled to] follow the combine before tillage.”

With fall fertilization, planting can begin sooner in the spring, plus the fertilizer works more efficiently when it goes on now. A fall application of phosphorus, potassium, and Gypsoil® (see next article) will give crops a yield boost for the 2019 growing season. Reinking added, “Nitrogen applications can easily be applied come spring, conventionally pre-plant or following planter tracks if need be.”

Remember: Contact your Federated Agronomist to plan fall fertilizer applications before harvest begins.
